Benefits Assistant

The Benefits Assistant will support the administration of PAE’s benefit plans and programs. This will require timely and accurate interaction with employees, carriers, third party administrators, and PAE’s Benefits, Human Resources, and Payroll staff. The Benefits Assistant will also answer questions and provide instructions regarding PAE’s leave and benefits programs, and perform certain time-sensitive tasks related to the PAE 401(k) Savings Plan.


  • Research and address benefit inquiries from employees, including enrollment and claims issues.

  • Communicate accurately and timely will relevant parties.

  • Describe leave of absence benefits and processes to employees and HR staff.

  • Administer ongoing disability leaves of absence.

  • Update PAE’s 401(k) Savings Plan website with new hire or termination records; identify, research and resolve demographic data issues. Update 401(k) loans in Payroll system and address loan payment issues, including delinquencies.

  • Administer Health Savings Account employer wellness credits by pulling reports from vendor’s website, and sending reports to Payroll of wellness credits that employees have earned.

  • Provide overview of benefit plans and benefits enrollment process during employee onboarding.

  • Present other onboarding information to employees, on an as-needed basis, when HR Business Partner is absent.

  • Administer PAE’s employee discount program with Golds’ Gym, including maintenance of enrollment records.

  • Assist employees with access to and navigation of PAE’s online enrollment system.

  • Answer basic employee or HR staff inquiries regarding benefit plan provisions.

  • Route incoming mail.

  • Provide administrative support to the Benefits Director.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Must have a High school Dipolma at minimum.

  • At least one year of recent administrative office experience.

  • At least two years of recent experience with employee benefits, preferably at a large employer.

  • Proficient in Excel, Word, Outlook.

  • Knowledge of payroll systems and HRIS; basic reporting experience with such systems a plus.

  • Self-starter, demonstrating initiative on assigned tasks.

  • Desire to learn.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.

  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percents.

  • Sense of urgency and ability to prioritize assigned tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Commitment to outstanding customer service.

  • Excellent communications skills, both written and oral.

  • Must be highly-organized.

  • Must consider themselves to be a team player.

  • Ability to work with confidential information in a professional manner
