The Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC) Mission is to provide Naval Warfare Centers, the Fleet, and other customers with accurate undersea, surface, and in-air three-dimensional tracking data and other unique Atlantic test facilities. In support of Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E), and Fleet readiness assessment and training. AUTEC is a Major Range and Test Facility Base (MRTFB) and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Division Newport's largest single team project, providing both deep and shallow water test and training environments.

The Helo Lead Mechanic performs a variety of professional functions in support of Aviation Services on the AUTEC Project, Andros Island, Bahamas. This is an unaccompanied position.


  • Provides lead mechanic supervision of shift personnel.

  • Schedules and performs maintenance on the company helicopters IAW FAA rules, regulations, OEM procedures, and the General Maintenance Manual.

  • Responsible for troubleshooting aircraft systems using technical data.

  • Maintains aircraft log books and records, while ensuring that all maintenance entries on forms and work orders are properly executed by the responsible mechanics.

  • Responsible for updating maintenance and flight information within the electronic database.

  • Responsible for preparations of the Airworthiness Release.

  • Responsible for all other duties as assigned.


  • High school graduate or equivalent.

  • Airframe and Power plant License.

  • 5 years or more experience as a helicopter Airframe and Power Mechanic.

  • Must have previous experience working within FAA Part 121/135 regulations.

  • Must be qualified as an RII inspector and designated Airworthiness Release Mechanic.

  • Avionics and electrical ratings preferred.

  • Current computer skills in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.

  • Must have knowledge of FAA part 135 operations and maintenance procedures.

  • Must be willing and able to work rotating shifts including, holidays, weekends and previously scheduled days off

  • Must be willing and able to work overtime as necessary.

  • Ability to handle multiple work assignments, work with little supervision and work well under pressure.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Must be able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds of equipment of varying types.

  • Must be able to climb maintenance stands and helicopter access steps.

  • Must have corrected vision of 20/20 or better.

  • Must be able to climb maintenance stands and helicopter access steps.

  • Must be physically fit and be able to work in high heat.

  • This position requires the individual to be eligible to obtain a US Government security clearance; US Citizenship is required

  • Must be able to reside in remote location with limited medical facilities.

  • A valid US Passport and Driver’s License is required.
