Responsibilities: PAE has an immediate opening for an experienced Security Operations Specialist, located at our National Security Solutions facility in Falls Church, VA. Security Operations Specialists determine the suitability of individuals for entry and retention in sensitive and non-sensitive positions under 5 Code Federal Regulations 731, National Industrial Security Program and Intelligence Community Directives. S/he will assess the character, conduct, loyalty, reliability, suitability and trustworthiness of applicants for Federal contractor positions. Review, evaluate and prioritize reports of investigation, security questionnaires, records checks, personnel files and other records to determine whether to submit subjects to federal clients in accordance with suitability, contractual, and NISPOM guidelines. Responsibilities include: Assist in and initiate background investigations. Conduct fingerprinting procedures; initiate contact with personal references, employers of applicants, and appointees for use in pre-employment suitability inquiries. Verify the appropriate level of background investigation being requested, and ensure all documents required for suitability processing have been completed and included in the individual files. Receive telephone calls and greet visitors to the office. Prepare, submit, monitor, and update computer tracking systems concerning appropriate case material. Serve as a source of reference and guidance for staff members regarding the monitoring and maintenance of case-material. Functional Responsibility: Performs security and/or intelligence services in one or more of the specialized security and/or intelligence areas. Duties may include, but are not limited to: Applying incident management, problem solving, and task performance. Producing finished documentation; e.g., reports, special studies, policy and procedure development, security designs, training programs and assessments. Providing research and technical support to projects. Producing solutions and documentation. Monitoring project tasks and schedules. Qualifications: US citizenship required. This position requires at minimum an active Secret security clearance. Candidates who do not currently hold this level of clearance may not be considered. • Bachelor’s degree required; a combination of college and work experience or 1-3 years related Industrial Security experience may be substituted in lieu of degree • Must be experienced with JPAS, Department of Justice and/or Intelligence Community processes and procedures and eQIP; familiarity with the NISPOM required • Must be proficient with Microsoft Applications • Must possess excellent communication skills both oral and written Preferred: • Familiarity with PIPS/JPAS, NCIC/NLETS and OPM Investigative products. • Experience in the application of 5CFR731 suitability guidelines. • Experience in responding to requests for information and searching automated systems for data • Ability to apply highly technical knowledge in solving complex problems and applies law, regulation, policy and procedures to the personnel security program. • Successful polygraph • Knowledge of Security Information Management Systems [SIMS] (or similar security database software)
