This program is a nationwide maintenance support program designed to work side-by-side with the ANA and ANP to train and mentor them in maintaining their vast vehicle and equipment fleet. Individuals supporting this program will be expected to live and work on secured ANA and ANP bases with both Private Security and Afghan Security. Conducts maintenance management training and mentoring (MMTM) to maintenance management personnel of the Afghan National Army (ANA) and Afghan National Police (ANP).
Provide Maintenance Training (MT) and provide classroom and shoulder-to -shoulder maintenance training to the ANDSF at the maintainer level for vehicles and ground equipment.
Also conduct Mobile Maintenance Training (MMT) for both ANA and ANP at various locations in Afghanistan. MMT is a capability consisting for one or more personnel that will travel away from the regional locations to a temporary duty location and provide maintenance training.
Training and mentoring shall include planning, coordinating, and managing maintenance operations for large fleets of vehicles and ground equipment at the national level and regional levels in support of ANA and ANP operations.
Work order distribution, facility management, shop fire and safety programs, unit calibration requirements, Operational Readiness (OR) reports, development of SOPs for maintenance areas for scheduling of maintenance services and dispatch of vehicles and ground equipment;
Establishment and operation of unit Authorized Stockage Listing (ASL) for National, Regional and Organizational repair and maintenance-related items;
Requisition and exchange of Class IX parts.
Disposal of Petroleum, Oils and Lubricants (POL) products.
Internal procedures to receive, issue, and store tools, parts, publications, and POL products, diagnosis, testing and analyzing malfunctions on vehicles and ground equipment.
Directly supports the National Maintenance Strategy institutional knowledge and capacity building efforts.
Serves as an embed maintenance trainer and mentor at an Afghan National Defense Security Force (ANDSF) Level 3 (National) and Level 2 (Regional) maintenance facility.
Provides Shoulder to Shoulder (S2S) training and sustained mentoring to ANDSF personnel related to self-sustaining maintenance capacity building.
Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
Comply with all Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements and goals. Provide information and materials to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.
Perform routine maintenance checks and adjustments on ANDSF wheeled vehicle fleet to include; Truck LTV Cargos (Ford), HMMWV variants, Mobile Strike Force and 5-ton Cargo trucks engines and vehicles for such things as fluid levels, hoses, belts, brakes, tires, and clutches; change filters and oil, and lubricate vehicles and motor driven equipment.
Supports NMS mechanic apprentice program.
Keep tools, equipment, and work area clean, organized, and in good working condition.
May assist in training lower-level workers in automotive mechanic techniques.
Complete records, maintain tools and equipment, and perform various clean-up activities.
Observe and follow all safety rules and procedures, including wearing required personal safety equipment.
Perform other duties and activities as directed.
Minimum five (5) years’ maintenance management experience maintaining commercial, non-standard and standard NATO military vehicles, ground equipment.
One (1) year of mentoring experience.
Medical: Favorable passage of a drug screen and physical examination.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Demonstrated past performance and experience in training duties and responsibilities.
Language Skills: Strong, professional, oral and written English communication skills.
Strong communication skills. Ability to effectively deal with people in the supervision of staff and team members.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules.
Cross-cultural sensitivity with an international perspective.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Possesses a valid driver’s license.
US Citizenship is not required.
The full time work location for this position is Afghanistan. Work is in a hostile war zone environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be exposed to extreme and austere desert-like environment - temperatures can reach 120- 130 degrees Fahrenheit/50-55 degrees Celsius during the summer months. Must be willing and able to perform regular job requirements in this austere and extreme environment.
Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including but not limited to heavy lifting and moving of items, parts, assemblies and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum; climbing in and out of equipment; crawling; and working outdoors. This includes being able to lift and carry 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time; and being capable of running and ‘duck & cover’ during emergencies without putting oneself or others at risk.
Must be able to work a minimum of 6 days per week and 9 hours per day.
