GENERAL DUTIES (not all inclusive):

  • Maintains a safe workplace program and ensures that safety is the highest priority in the workplace by adhering to all policies and procedures for Safety and hazardous cargo, hazardous waste regulations and shipping.

  • Complies with all ASC Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH), Waste Management and Quality Assurance requirements, goals, policies and procedures.

  • Receives, stores and distributes all incoming materials in support of all department operations including forklift support as required.

  • Researches stock information to determine locations and stock levels using the inventory management database.

  • Conducts inventories and audits of supplies.

  • Responsible for general housekeeping and maintains warehouse and Outside Storage Area (OSA) in an organized and clean manner.

  • Rotates stock of applicable commodities as instructed.

  • Provides customer service to all departments.

  • Assists with runway operations during seasonal transition and winter medical emergencies.

  • Researches, retrieves and issues supplies to customers in extreme weather conditions for extended periods.

  • Marking and tagging of equipment for specific departments and science groups.

  • Properly and accurately documents issues and returns of materials.

  • Prepares identified supplies and cargo for retrograde shipment.

  • Responsible for all setup and filling of commercial propane bottles.

  • Trains in vessel offload procedures and distribution procedures of materials (McMurdo Only)

  • Operates loaders and other forklift material handling equipment in both indoor and outdoor environments.

  • Cross trains with other departments within Supply Chain Management in use of heavy equipment and oversized tundra vehicles.

  • Reports maintenance requirements of assigned equipment and conducts required preventative maintenance on assigned equipment including fluid checks, safety inspections.

  • Could be required to perform shift work during season.

  • Performs other duties as required.


  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience required working in logistics and or warehousing, to include: inventory, issuing, receiving, stocking, maintaining and monitoring warehousing materials.

  • Previous work experience in customer service is required.

  • Hazardous material handling experience is preferred.

  • Experience and familiarity with the specific commodity field and the capability to identify the commodities and the supporting pieces and parts is preferred. Specifically: Medical and Dental; Construction and Residential Repair; Automotive and Heavy/Industrial equipment; Science, Lab Support, Food and Beverage; Office, Hotel and Janitorial Supplies; Electrical, plumbing, utilities, carpentry, and fire safety supplies.

  • One to three years of forklift or heavy equipment operation experience is preferred.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft office programs is required.

  • Knowledge of inventory management software is preferred.

  • High attention to detail with high aptitude for detailed problem solving.

  • Previous experience with remote Polar Logistics operations is preferred.

  • Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods is required.

  • Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum.

  • Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors.

  • Must successfully complete the physical, dental and psychological (if applicable) examinations as required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica.

  • Must participate in community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts and safety objectives.
