Directly oversee paint department operations and supervision of paint staff. Participate in goal-setting processes and strategic planning for mission support with other department leaders and I&O Management. Contribute to a safe working environment by coordinating employee trainings and identification and mitigation of environmental and job hazards. Maintain effective communications between departments and represent department as needed at operational meetings. Provide suggestions and recommendations for re-hiring, termination and advancement of staff. Routinely utilize independent judgment and discretion to solve problems and identify potential issues.
GENERAL DUTIES (not all inclusive):
Responsible for implementing and maintaining a safe workplace program and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace
Complies with all ASC Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH), Waste Management and Quality Assurance requirements, goals, policies and procedures.
Accomplishes painting tasks on maintenance and construction projects in Antarctica.Performs painting of interior walls, piping, ceilings, floors, furniture and any other item that requires a paint finish.
Performs painting of exterior surfaces of buildings, towers and structures.Utilizes a variety of paint materials and application tools.
Performs drywall repairs, raping, finishing and texturing.
Advises Supervisor on job progress and material requirements.
Handles confidential matters (personnel actions, management reports, etc.) in accordance with management policy.
Interacts with the National Science Foundation, military and other agency officials, both over the telephone and in person.
Works outside on various job sites in extreme cold weather conditions as required.
Performs other duties as required.
High school graduate or GED is required.
Minimum 8 years experience required in all phases of painting, including interior and exterior, and using a variety of application tools and methods.
3 years Supervisory experience.
Experience with scaffolding and/or aerial lifts is required.
Proficiency with MS Office Suite is required.
Experience with all phases of drywall finishing and repair is required.
Experience in a commercial or industrial environment is preferred.
Experience with industrial coatings is preferred.
Experience working in confined spaces is preferred.
Experience working in remote locations or extreme environments (temperature, elevation, known hazards) is preferred.
Ability to read design drawings and diagrams is preferred.
Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods is required.
Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum.
Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors.
Must successfully complete the physical, dental and psychological (if applicable) examinations as required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica.
Must participate in community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts and safety objectives.
