Job Title: Sheetmetal Worker

Assigned Work Site: Antarctica

Reports to: Sheetmetal Foreman

Department: I&O Facilities Maintenance

Employment Type: Seasonal Contract

Summary:

Sheetmetal Worker accomplishes hands-on metal tasks on maintenance and construction projects in Antarctica.

GENERAL DUTIES (not all inclusive):

  • Maintains a safe workplace program and ensures safety is the highest priority in the work place.

  • Accomplishes sheet metal fabrication and assembly on maintenance and construction projects in Antarctica.

  • Performs layout and fabrication of ductwork, and building components, using mechanical fasteners or welding.

  • Accomplishes a variety of sheetmetal fabrications for heating and ventilation systems, and building components using a variety of sheetmetal forming tools and equipment.

  • May be required to assist with insulation projects.

  • May be required to work outside on various job sites in extreme cold weather conditions.

  • Performs other duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • U.S./State Vehicle Operators License required.

  • Minimum four years of documented experience in all phases of sheetmetal fabrication and assembly is required.

  • The ability to read design drawings and wiring diagrams is required.

  • Experience in a commercial or industrial environment is preferred.

  • Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum.

  • Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods is required.

  • Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors.

  • Must successfully complete the physical, dental and psychological (if applicable) examinations as required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica.

  • Must participate in community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts and safety objectives.

  • US citizenship or Permanent US Resident Status required.
