BMW Specialist

BMW Specialist will be based at the Baghdad Diplomatic Support Center (BDSC), Iraq and will be associated with the Site Services section. This position will report to the Motor Pool Supervisor. The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.

  • Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.

  • Comply with all Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements and goals. Provide information and materials to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.

  • Performs routine maintenance checks and adjustments on BMW engines and vehicles for such things as fluid levels, hoses, belts, brakes, tires, and clutches; changes filters and oil, and lubricates vehicles and motor driven equipment

  • Tunes gas and diesel engines and, as needed, replaces spark plugs, fuel filters, injectors and turbo chargers.

  • Diagnoses problems, disassembles units, repairs or replaces parts, and reassembles units in the following systems:

  • Brake System: Repair or replace shoes, pads, drums, hoses, calipers, and cylinders.

  • Cooling System: Flush radiator, replace hoses and thermostat, repair or replace radiator and water pump. Drive System: Repair and replace drive shaft, differential, axle, transmission, and clutch.

  • Electrical System: Repair or replace fuses, batteries, lights, instruments, warning devices, controls and switches, computer controls, modules, alternators, starters, and defective cables and wiring.

  • Exhaust and Emissions Control System: Replace mufflers, manifolds, catalytic converters, and pipes.

  • Heating and Air Conditioning System: Repair or replace heater cores, condensers, compressors, hoses, and controls; recharge air conditioning systems.

  • Hydraulic and Air Systems: Repair or replace hoses, valves, cylinders, compressors, and pumps.

  • Steering and Suspension System: Repairs rack and pinion steering systems. Align and balance wheels, repair or replace tie rods, ball joints, gear boxes, shock absorbers, springs, steering linkage, kingpins, power steering, hoses, and pumps.

  • Electronic Control Systems: Proficient in diagnosis of electronic control systems and components using specialized diagnostic equipment.

  • Overhauls BMW engines, replaces engines, and rebuilds vehicle components.

  • Fabricates, modifies, and installs special equipment or replacement parts.

  • Maintains service logs and records of maintenance on vehicles and motorized equipment.

  • Keeps tools, equipment, and work area clean, organized, and in good working condition.

  • May assist in training lower-level workers in automotive mechanic techniques.

  • Road tests vehicles.

  • Completes records, maintains tools and equipment, and performs various clean-up activities.

  • Observes and follows all safety rules and procedures, including wearing required personal safety equipment.

  • Performs other duties and activities as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

  • Must possess a valid Truck Driver License

  • Must have prior demonstrated experience working with BMW engines and vehicles.

  • Minimum Acceptable Experience Level: Must have 10 years’ experience working with BMW vehicles.

  • Education: A high school diploma or GED is required. Must have valid ASE or similar certification to work specifically on BMW vehicles.

  • Security Vetting: Already possess a Moderate Risk Public Trust (MRPT), Secret, or TS clearance or be able to obtain a favorable Secret certification prior to being hired is required for the position. Must maintain eligibility at the required certification level for the duration of the contract.

  • Language Skills: Strong, professional, oral and written English communication skills.

  • Citizenship: US Citizenship is required.

  • Medical: Favorable passage of a drug screen and physical examination.

DESIRED:

  • Relevant overseas BMW engine & automotive mechanical experience.

  • Previous overseas experience is highly desirable and previous work experience in harsh environmental conditions is a plus.

  • Experience working with PAE .

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of ALL principles and processes involved in supporting automotive mechanical functions at an overseas facility.

  • Knowledge of automotive repairs and maintenance.

  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer services.

  • Willingness and ability to deploy to Iraq for extended periods is required. Position may be located in a war zone in an environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be exposed to extreme and austere desert-like environment - temperatures can reach 120- 130 degrees Fahrenheit/50-55 degrees Celsius during the summer months. Must be willing and able to perform regular job requirements in this austere and extreme environment.

  • Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including but not limited to heavy lifting and moving of items, parts, assemblies and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum; climbing in and out of equipment; crawling; and working outdoors. This includes being able to lift and carry 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time; and being capable of running and ‘duck & cover’ during emergencies without putting oneself or others at risk.

  • Must successfully complete and pass the medical and dental examinations as required by PAE and our customer for deployment to Iraq. Must maintain physical and dental requirements for duration of deployment.

  • Must be able to work a minimum of 6 days per week and 10 hours per day, some jobs have higher daily and weekly minimums.

  • Must possess satisfactory English proficiency to meet job requirements and to adhere and comply with safety, health and security measures.
