GENERAL DUTIES (not all inclusive)
Oversees the packaging, crating, and documentation, for all northbound cargo. Ensures all cargo is labeled, stored and packed properly This includes property of science, construction, operations, maintenance or other USAP agency cargo being transported from Palmer Station to CONUS, OCONUS and Punta Arenas.
Responsible for maintaining the preliminary north-bound manifest.
Interacts with ASC Departments, Grantees, and Subcontractors to ensure the timely arrival and receipt of material.
Oversees quality assurance practices throughout the cargo movement and container loading and unloading process.
Responsible for maintaining the Maximo Inventory and Shipping Modules within the Maximo Database. Manages data entry of Maximo in regards to Shipping Number creation and editing.
Maintains records of north-bound and south-bound shipping documentation.
Physically receives cargo by checking order accuracy, writing Maximo item numbers on all materials and finds locations for storage.
Completes electronic purchase requisition receiving and data entry for cargo received on station.
Researches and provides WODS (wrong, overage, damaged or short) reports on any discrepancies for materials received.
Responsible for processing weekly station issues/returns in MAXIMO.
Creates and/or runs standard or custom reports for ASC departments with-in MAXIMO.
Conducts inventories of station supplies and maintains maps of several outside storage locations.
Participates in long-shore cargo handling duties involving 20’ shipping containers, break-bulk and hazardous cargo weighing up to 20,000lbs. This includes handling tag-lines for both south-bound and north-bound cargo.
Participate in onsite emergency response team& trainings.
Assisting in the community to perform chores and other house-keeping assignments as needed.
Coordinates with Grantees and ASC departments for the receiving, accurate processing, timely packing and movement of mission critical material.
Fields and troubleshoots cargo queries presented to the Logistics department regarding cargo, MAXIMO issues and any other Logistics-related discrepancies that may arise.
Required to operate heavy equipment to load/un-load cargo out of shipping containers and move cargo around station as requested.
Frequently works outdoors in inclement weather for long periods of time.
Supports operations that occur after normal work hours or on ASC days off.
Responsible for maintaining Palmer Stations SDS library.
Is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
Will frequently perform strenuous physical work.
Will occasionally need to lift and push 75lbs.
Will frequently need to lift and push 50lbs.
Will constantly move 20 lb objects.
Will frequently climb vertical ladders into and out of equipment.
Will frequently climb vertical ladders and platforms to access cargo.
Performs other duties as required.
Valid Driver's license required.
A Minimum of 2-4 years of diversified experience in the cargo shipping industry, warehouse operations, heavy equipment, or equivalent experience is required.
Knowledge of hazardous cargo and shipping requirements is preferred.
An understanding of remote site and/or polar logistics is preferred.
Familiarity with inventory database systems like Maximo is preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 2000 software within the Microsoft Windows Operating System is required.
Strong customer services skills are required.
Previous experience with the United States Antarctic Program (USAP) preferred.
Must be capable of occasionally lifting and pushing 75lbs.
Must be capable of frequently lifting and pushing 50lbs.
Must be capable of constantly moving 20 lb objects.
Must be willing to work rotating shifts, including weekends and extra hours, as required.
Must be willing to be on call at night to answer cargo questions.
Must be willing to coordinate changes at any hour day or night.
Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum.
Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods is required.
Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors.
Must successfully complete the physical, dental and psychological (if applicable) examinations as required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica.
Must participate in community programs, such as but not limited to: “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), GASH (dishes), recycling efforts and safety objectives.
