Fire Protection Engineer

P OSITION SUMMARY

PAE is currently seeking a Qualified Fire Protection Engineer (QFPE) for a new program at Kirtland AFB near Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The Qualified Fire Protection Engineer is responsible for providing reliable and responsive Fire Protection Engineer support to ensure effective and efficient operations of U.S.-owned and occupied facilities, associated installed equipment, and infrastructure. This includes the maintenance of all infrastructure, engineering support, fire protection and prevention services, and emergency management.

  • The QFPE shall be involved in every aspect of the design, construction and testing/commissioning as it relates to fire protection and life safety. This includes building code analysis, life safety code analysis, design of automatic fire alarm, detection and suppression systems, water supply analysis, a multi-discipline review of the entire project, construction inspections and witnessing of fire protection acceptance testing/commissioning.

  • Perform standard fire protection design tasks such as sprinkler design criteria specification, preliminary hydraulic calculations, fire pump selection, and fire alarm system layout.

  • Edit HGI standard specifications for assigned projects.

  • Review automatic fire sprinkler and fire alarm contractor shop drawings and provide written comments.

  • Perform field surveys, fire protection system inspections, and acceptance testing.

  • Review all A/E drawings for conformance with model and local codes, as well as NFPA standards.

  • Research model and local codes, as well as nationally recognized standards to assist in the development of alternate methods of code compliance.

  • Develop reports, studies, letters and memos (as necessary) with the assistance of other engineers.

  • Develop performance-based design analysis using computer fire modeling, egress calculations, and other available resources.

EDUCATION & LICENSING

  • The Fire Protection engineer shall have a bachelor’s degree in engineering from a program certified by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).

  • Must have and maintain professional registration as an engineer under the requirements of the New Mexico State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Professional Surveyors ( http://www.sblpes.state.nm.us/ ), based on having passed the Fire Protection Engineering exam (see http://ncees.org/engineering/pe/ , NMAC 16.39.3.8 at http://164.64.110.239/nmac/parts/title16/16.039.0003.htm and Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) 3-600-01.

EXPERIENCE

  • Must have a minimum of five (5) years of design experience in facility infrastructure design with two (2) years of Air Force Base CE experience preferred.

  • Must possess strong computer skills, including, but not limited to Microsoft Office products.

  • Must have excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Must possess or be able to obtain/maintain Secret Clearance.

  • Must have and maintain a valid US driver’s license.

  • Must be capable of working with customers and company employees in a courteous, professional, and effective manner.
