Concrete and Masonry Specialist

PAE is currently seeking a Concrete and Masonry Specialist to support our US Embassy Program in Iraq.

The Concrete and Masonry Specialist will:

  • Perform skilled masonry work, building, altering and repairing brick, stone, tile or ceramic structures and surfaces.

  • Repair, maintain and alter buildings, retaining walls and other brick or stone edifices.

  • Mix mortar; lay bricks and stones and/or concrete sidewalks; makes and repairs steps.

  • Patch and/or replace brick or stonework chimneys.

  • Install and repair tile floors and/or walls.

  • Read blueprints.

  • Plaster ceilings and/or walls.

  • Estimate masonry jobs.

  • Perform carpentry work incidental to masonry work.

  • Assign work to a helper or apprentice.

  • Have knowledge of the tools, techniques, methods and materials associated with the stone masonry trade.

  • Have good knowledge of the accident and safety precautions of the trade

  • Have the ability to recognize and to recommend the need for stone masonry repairs and to make such repairs.

  • Have the ability to distinguish high grades from inferior grades of stone.

  • Have the ability to read blueprints, sketches, and drawings.

  • Take the initiative in undertaking and completing assigned work.

  • Have good judgment in determining the exact nature of the masonry repairs to be made.

  • Have the physical strength and agility; physical condition commensurate with the duties of the position.


  • Must have either: (a) graduation from a standard high school course or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and five years’ experience in the masonry trade; or (b) completion of a vocational program or apprenticeship program in masonry trade; or (c) three (3) years of experience in masonry work under the supervision of a skilled mason; or (d) a satisfactory equivalent combination of the foregoing training and experience.

  • At least 3 years of professional concrete/masonry experience is required.

  • Requires journeyman level ability on all interior finishes (such as drywall, stucco, painting, block construction, formed (concrete) construction, finishing, and suspended ceiling installation).

  • Must have knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer service.

  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules is required.

  • Requires cross-cultural sensitivity with an international perspective.

  • Must have excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Expert computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Word and Excel is required.

  • Must be able to become an active and functioning member of a team.

  • The ability to be innovative and be an agent for change is required.

  • Requires excellent communication skills to facilitate and disseminate information.

  • Must be willing to live and work in harsh and austere conditions.

  • Experience working on OCONUS projects in harsh conditions is preferred.

  • Prior experience with PAE is desired.

  • US Citizenship is required.

  • Must possess a current, Active Secret or Top Secret Security clearance and must maintain eligibility throughout the terms of employment.

  • Requires the favorable completion of a drug screen and physical examination.
