PAE, Inc HVAC Technician in Baghdad, Iraq

The HVAC/R Journeyman will support PAE in Iraq. This position is based in Iraq.
This position will be an expert in all phases of the HVAC/R industry. This position will be able to work independently to troubleshoot and/or install any of these systems. The Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning Journeyman installs, environmental-control systems in residences, office buildings, and other structures, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting and structural layout, mounts compressor and condenser units on platform or floor, using hand tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications, fabricates, assembles and installs ductwork and chassis parts, using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment, and installs evaporator unit in chassis or in air-duct system, using hand tools. The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.
Reads and interprets instructions and documentation and plans work activities
Moves materials and equipment to work locations and sets up work site
Maintains, repairs, and replaces or installs a broad range of HVAC/R equipment and support systems for embassy operation and maintenance activities
Completes records, maintains tools and equipment, and performs various clean-up activities
The HVAC/R Journeyman will be responsible for the servicing and repairing environmental-control systems using their knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting, structural layout, and troubleshooting
Mount compressor, condenser units, air handler using hand tools following blueprint, engineering specifications and manufacture recommendations
Cuts and bends tubing to correct length and shape, using cutting and bending equipment and tools - Cuts and threads pipe, using machine-threading or hand-threading equipment
Joins tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings or unions
Solders joints, using torch, forming complete circuit for refrigerant
Installs expansion and discharge valves in circuit.
Connects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connects control panels to power source
Installs air and water filters in completed installation
Injects small amount of refrigerant into compressor to test systems
Repairing, and fabricating ductwork using sheet metal hand tools and shop fabrication equipment
Measure, cut and assembly PVC and copper tubing and fittings, including braze/soldering copper/copper, copper/brass, and copper/steel
Troubleshoot and replace defective breaker controls, contactors, thermostats, switches, fuses and electrical wiring to repair installed units using electrician’s hand tools
Install, repair, replace, maintain, troubleshoot, and service; air conditioners, condensing units, air cooled chillers and air handlers, including filters
Work independently, be self-motivated, delegate assignments, responsibility and direct subordinates to meet schedules and objectives
Observes and follows all safety rules and procedures, including wearing required personal safety equipment
Performs other duties and activities as directed
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent
The candidate will have a minimum of three years of experience in Operations and Maintenance services, with a minimum of three years of experience in physical plant and building operations of large facilities
Two to five years of related HVAC/R experience
Two to five years of overseas work experience
Ability to collect, analyze and summarize data and prepare daily reports and work orders
Must have hands-on experience with repairs, troubleshooting, and maintenance on these types of systems
Must have knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS) Building Management Systems (BMS)
Citizenship: US Citizenship is required for this position
Security Vetting: Must possess an active DOD or DOS Secret security clearance, and maintaining eligibility for the duration of the contract
Language Skills: Professional English communication skills, both oral and written
Medical: Favorable passage of a drug screen and physical examination
Completion of an Apprentice program with a Journeyman Certificate; or Universal HVAC/Refrigeration Certificate; or AAS degree in HVAC/R from a two year accredited college, and/or equivalent field experience preferred: Equivalent experience in a trade related field, that is; electrical, plumbing, construction, which would apply to the HVAC/R Trade
Relevant overseas HVAC/R experience preferred
Previous experience working with PAE preferred
Previous out of home country experience is highly desirable and previous work experience in harsh environmental conditions is a plus
Strongly preferred is extensive experience with air cooled chillers with screw compressors
OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of ALL principles and processes involved in supporting HVAC/R functions at an overseas facility
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer services
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules
Cross-cultural sensitivity with an international perspective
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Expert computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Word and Excel
Ability to become an active and functioning member of a team
Must have the ability to be innovative and be an agent for change
Expert communication skills to facilitate and disseminate information
Willingness and ability to deploy to Iraq for extended periods is required. Position may be located in a war zone in an environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be exposed to extreme and austere desert-like environment - temperatures can reach 120- 130 degrees Fahrenheit/50-55 degrees Celsius during the summer months. Must be willing and able to perform regular job requirements in this austere and extreme environment.
Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including but not limited to heavy lifting and moving of items, parts, assemblies and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum; climbing in and out of equipment; crawling; and working outdoors. This includes being able to lift and carry 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time; and being capable of running and ‘duck & cover’ during emergencies without putting oneself or others at risk.
Must successfully complete and pass the medical and dental examinations as required by PAE and our customer for deployment to Iraq. Must maintain physical and dental requirements for duration of deployment.
Must be able to work a minimum of 6 days per week and 10 hours per day, some jobs have higher daily and weekly minimums.
Must possess satisfactory English proficiency to meet job requirements and to adhere and comply with safety, health and security measures.
