Customs Compliance Technician

The Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC) Mission is to provide Naval Warfare Centers, the Fleet, and other customers with accurate undersea, surface, and in-air three-dimensional tracking data and other unique Atlantic test facilities. In support of Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E), and Fleet readiness assessment and training. AUTEC is a Major Range and Test Facility Base (MRTFB) and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Division Newport's largest single team project, providing both deep and shallow water test and training environments.

Responsible for the US Department of Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection documentation for cargo being shipped from AUTEC, Andros, Bahamas to CONUS.


  • Oversees preparation of air/marine manifests and required Bahamian/American Customs forms.

  • Inspect Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC) vessel cargo for damage and prepare message traffic related to barge shipments.

  • Must be familiar with Customs clearance documentation as well as manifesting procedures for all cargo destined for US Ports of Entry by air and by sea.

  • Must have knowledge of materials shipping preparation procedures.

  • Use of Global Air Transportation Execution Systems (GATES) for data entry, QA, and submittals.

  • Working knowledge of aircraft manifesting and Automated Manifest System (AMS) requirements for direct links to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) systems.

  • Perform aircraft and barge weekend duty as necessary.

  • Will be required to become certified in International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG), International Air Transportation Association (IATA), and CFR49 Transportation of Hazardous Materials and comply with all regulations.

  • Forklift and truck certification license necessary.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


  • Associates degree or equivalent experience.

  • Two (2) or more years warehousing experience required.

  • Previous US Customs cargo clearance experience preferred.

  • Computer data entry experience necessary.

  • Knowledgeable with Microsoft Office and associated programs: Outlook, Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat.

  • Attention to detail as it pertains to documentation quality assurance is a must-have quality.

  • Customer service oriented with excellent communication and organization skills.

  • Required to lift/push/carry/pull up to 50 pounds.

  • Good Housekeeping skills, well organized, able to plan, prioritize and execute.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • May be required to perform on-call duties upon occasion.

  • Must be able to reside in remote location with limited medical facilities.

  • This position requires the individual to be eligible to obtain a US Government security clearance; US Citizenship is required.

  • Must be able to reside in remote location with limited medical facilities.

  • A valid US Passport and Driver’s License is required.
