DLA Fuels Specialist Lead

The Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC) Mission is to provide Naval Warfare Centers, the Fleet, and other customers with accurate undersea, surface, and in-air three-dimensional tracking data and other unique Atlantic test facilities. In support of Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E), and Fleet readiness assessment and training. AUTEC is a Major Range and Test Facility Base (MRTFB) and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Division Newport's largest single team project, providing both deep and shallow water test and training environments.

The DLA Fuels Specialist Lead is the Fuels Manager and Fuels Master System Administrator responsible for all DLA regulated functions of accounting, account and billing reconciliation, the Preventative Maintenance program and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of support databases for the fuels system on the AUTEC Project.


  • Responsible for monitoring maintenance/troubleshooting of Automatic Tank gauges (ATG) located at all sites and the Fuels Manager Unit at Site 1.

  • Responsible for execution of prevailing NUWC advanced technical Instruction 920I112, Fuel Farm Maintenance and Operations, including all reports.

  • Supervises the FUEL Key program (government and private) and prepares and submits reports/ billing data to both Contractor and Government.

  • Places fuel orders through the DLA Enterprise System, and ensures all fuel offloads are accomplished in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Inspects, and reports any discrepancies in the bulk fuel system, and supervises any repairs to the system.

  • Respond and work an on call status when necessary.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Provide Quality Assurance over all outgoing reports.

  • Performs additional duties as security escort as required


  • AA/AS in Accounting preferred.

  • BSM-W Fuel Manage Defense (FMD) certification required or equivalent experience.

  • FMD course must be obtained with 6 months from date of hire.

  • 5 years hands on experience with Department of defense fuels systems operations and maintenance preferred.

  • Experience with support systems such as Maximo preferred.

  • Experience supervising and training personnel is a plus.

  • Valid Driver’s License and passport will be required.

  • This position requires the individual to be eligible to obtain a US Government security clearance; US Citizenship is required.

  • Computer literate - Windows computer applications, including but not limited to MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.

  • Must be physically able to climb stairs & ladders or elevated fuel tanks, climb in and around Fuel piping and access confined spaces for inspection purposes

  • Knowledge of Occupational hazards and safety precautions.

  • Read and understand technical/repair manuals.

  • Must complete the DLA Management Training for Fuel Systems, BSME certification, BSME accounting certification, and Fuel Master DOD certification. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Must be able to reside in remote location with limited medical facilities.
