HVAC Supervisor


The Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC) Mission is to provide Naval Warfare Centers, the Fleet, and other customers with accurate undersea, surface, and in-air three-dimensional tracking data and other unique Atlantic test facilities. In support of Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E), and Fleet readiness assessment and training. AUTEC is a Major Range and Test Facility Base (MRTFB) and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Division Newport's largest single team project, providing both deep and shallow water test and training environments.

HVAC Supervisor Directs employees on the day to day operations in the A/C shop on the AUTEC project.


  • HVAC Supervisor Directs employees on the day to day operations in the A/C shop on the AUTEC project.

  • Supervises up to 10 US and Host nation skilled trades workers.

  • Specific responsibilities include the development and then implementation of facilities maintenance preventative maintenance tasks and schedules.

  • Reports directly to the Facilities Maintenance Manager.

  • Organizes/schedules workforce to perform maintenance activities and supports minor construction projects in the most efficient manner.

  • Responsible for tool equipment and materials assigned to A/C shop.

  • Responsible for oversight and management of refrigerants in accordance with environmental and safety laws/regulations.

  • Timesheet tracking of all employee’s in the department.

  • Perform Preventative Maintenance and Corrective Maintenance on all HVAC-R at the Detachment. May be required to install some smaller systems.

  • Required to carry pager/shared with shop employees

  • Willing to work overtime when needed.

  • Performs security escort for vendors and others as required

  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.

  • EPA certification for refrigerant recovery required.

  • Additional technical schooling from any of the major HVAC manufactures desired.

  • Five (5) or more year’s background and knowledge of respective field.

  • Experience with Energy Monitoring and Control Systems/controls desired.

  • Knowledge of Back Net and I-Vu control systems, chiller experience of up to 150 tons capacity, Trane and Carrier systems preferred.

  • Experience with Maximo a plus.

  • Prior experience with US Navy Facility maintenance procedures and or experience as a construction Superintendent a plus.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain government driver’s permit.

  • The ability to read and interpret operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Computer literate in MS Office.

  • Must be flexible and innovative to solve problems that may not follow a specific process. Involves customer service skills to resolve issues.

  • Must have the ability to climb ladders, in and out of utility trenches and access confined spaces such as manholes.

  • Frequently lifts, carries, pushes and pulls up to 50 pounds.

  • Mobility on sand and rough terrain to supervise activities.

  • Must be able to reside in remote location with limited medical facilities.

  • This position requires the individual to be eligible to obtain a US Government security clearance; US Citizenship is required
