Purpose of the position
Will perform assigned Surveying and Drafting / CAD duties as a PAE employee onsite at the NASA Johnson Space Center.
Principal Responsibilities of the Position
The successful candidate will be responsible for preparation of survey drawings and maps including boundary surveys, as-built surveys, topographic surveys, utility route surveys and GIS maps meeting the current JSC requirements. Responsibilities will also include individual project management, file research, construction staking calculations, and field work.
Performs drafting work manually or using a computer, requiring knowledge and skill in drafting methods, procedures, and techniques. Prepares drawings of structures, facilities, land profiles, water systems, mechanical and electrical equipment, pipelines, duct systems, and similar equipment, systems, and assemblies. Drawings are used to communicate engineering ideas, design, and information. Uses recognized systems of symbols, legends, shadings, and lines having specific meanings in drawings.
Prepares complete sets of complex drawings or computer models that include multiple views, detail drawings, and assembly drawings
Assignments regularly require the use of mathematical formulas to draw land contours.
Works from sketches and verbal information supplied by an engineer, architect, or designer to determine the most appropriate views, detail drawings, and supplementary information needed to complete assignments.
The successful candidate will be able to work with minimal supervision to complete projects with demanding scopes and schedules. The Survey CAD Technician will work under the direction of the Lead.
Education and Experience Requirements
2 – 5 years’ experience.
Has knowledge of Micro Station V8i or higher software as well as Autodesk Civil 3D
Has knowledge of manual drafting and surveying expertise, personal computer operations, and construction practices.
This position is located onsite at NASA JSC and requires U.S. Citizen in order to obtain required NASA badge.
Must be able to provide a certified Birth Certificate (with state seal), Passport, or INS Citizenship documents on date of hire (candidate will be sent home if this paperwork is not provided upon arrival on date of hire).
Must be able to pass a Pre-Employment background check and drug screen test.
Clean, neat, and professional personal appearance.
Will insure quality and completeness of work in a safe and timely manner as well as insuring areas worked are clean, neat and ready for Customers’ needs when complete.
Must have the ability to communicate the English language, both verbally and written, in an effective manner.
Must have, and maintain, a valid Texas driver’s license.
Special Knowledge and Skills Required
Skills in computer aided drafting (CAD) software such as AutoCAD, etc.
Skills in Bentley MAP, ESRI, and Trimble Equipment etc.
Organization and time management skills to maintain project deadlines.
Interpersonal skills to interact with customers, team members, vendors and contractors.
Communication skills to interact with internal and external personnel and to convey project intent.
Ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Dexterity to operate office and field equipment as required by the position.
- Prior knowledge of NASA site, experienced with working on government installations preferred.
