Engineering Technician II - Pedestal

Duties, Experience, Skills, Requirements, and Information:

This position will serve as a Pedestal Technician for the Advanced Dynamic Measurement System (ADAMS), Electronic Warfare (EW), and RADAR Teams at the Atlantic Test Range (ATR), Patuxent River, MD. As part of a larger test team the RF Technician will be exposed to a rewarding technical environment working with precision RADAR and EW pedestals required to support acquisition of accurate position data and aircraft signature measurements.

  • Perform operations, maintenance, and repair of radar and EW pedestal systems.

  • Assist in design, development, modification, and testing of pedestal systems and associated instrumentation.

  • Assist RF Engineers/Technicians in performing operations, maintenance, and repair of radar systems, transmitter (solid state and TWT), exciter and receiver, as required.

  • Follow site security, communications, and coordination processes and procedures as required.

  • Perform corrective actions and preventive maintenance actions on pedestal systems.

  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience in performing the stated or similar job functions.

  • Candidate must be familiar with and demonstrate a basic knowledge of general purpose and RF laboratory test equipment, including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, Volt/Ohm meters, power supplies and signal generators.

  • General knowledge of Radar/RF communications theory of operation, software/hardware components will be helpful.

  • Special consideration will be given to candidates with a background in servo systems.

  • Knowledge of Test Range Operations a plus.

  • Should be able to support a dynamic work schedule to support flight testing.

  • Possess a valid driver’s license.

  • All candidates will be required to pass a Drug Screening.

Education Required:

  • Successful completion of advanced armed services technical school curriculum; or completion of at least 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) of courses at an accredited college, university, or technical school in an engineering, scientific, or technical curriculum.

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Security Clearance Requirements:

  • U S Citizenship required & the ability to obtain a US DoD Secret Security clearance, and ability to maintain clearance throughout employment. If the position requires a clearance.

Work Conditions:

Conditions will vary. Most work performed in enclosed buildings. Work will include sitting, standing, walking, lifting and reaching. This classification’s activities range from, an office-like environment with extensive sitting demands to a flight line-like environment with extensive climbing, standing, stooping, bending, pushing, kneeling, stretching, and walking demands. May occasionally be required to lift objects whose weight exceeds 30 pounds. Special vision abilities to perform this job are close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.

The diversity of work conditions may range from an office environment where there is little or no physical discomfort to a flight line environment where inclement weather may subject the individual to severe changes in temperature, wind, rain, etc. May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail. May be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and electrical shock hazards.
